What is BMTI
Under Article 6 of Ministerial Decree 174/06, the Italian Telematic Commodity Exchange is the regulated telematic market for agricultural, food and fish products which functions through an online Telematic Platform.
It comprises three independent bodies:
- BMTI S.C.p.A.
- National Deputation
- Chambers of Commerce
BMTI S.C.p.A. carries out the following major tasks:
- preparing and administering the Telematic Platform
- with support from Chambers of Commerce, checking that authorized intermediation entities (AIEs) possess the requisites for admission to negotiations
- providing authorized intermediation entities (AIEs) with services related to access, negotiations and identification of information available on the telematic platform
- providing Chambers of Commerce with services related to prices, training, promotion, and organizational and technical support.
The National Committee, set up by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry under Decree 174 of 6 April 2006, is the Italian Telematic Commodity Exchange body responsible for supervision and overall direction.
The National Committee is responsible for maintaining and updating the electronic list of authorized intermediation entities (AIEs).
The National Committee carries out the following major tasks:
- monitoring the Company that manages the Italian Telematic Commodity Exchange and its overall operation
- standardizing methods of negotiation, and the safety and guarantee of transactions
- establishing disciplinary procedures for authorized intermediation entities that violate the regulations
- registering authorized intermediation entities in a special list for which it is responsible.
Under Ministerial Decree 174/06 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Crafts and Agriculture promote and support the activities and services of the Italian Telematic Commodity Exchange nationwide.
Coordinated by the Italian Union of Chambers of Commerce, the Chambers of Commerce carry out the following major tasks:
- supporting the managing Company in checking the requisites of authorized intermediation entities (AIEs)
- guaranteeing territorial and promotional support to the Italian Telematic Commodity Exchange
- Through their bulletins, reporting the results of negotiations in the Italian Telematic Commodity Exchange.
Access to the Italian Telematic Commodity Exchange is reserved to authorized intermediation entities that handle negotiations on behalf of accredited professional operators. |
